Diploma of Interior Design

An introduction
to Interior Design, exploring how to elicit client requirements,
prepare scale plans and plan lighting. This unit also touches on
the art of budgeting, and health and safety considerations.
Style and Design
You will
examine the relationship between historical and current design
styles, exploring the use of colour, texture, pattern and
proportion within them. You will learn more about room usage,
decorative treatments, colour and mood boards.
Colour and Furniture
You will
understand how colour creates mood, ambience and atmosphere. You
will create colour schemes, learn how to describe colours and
select co-ordinated colour schemes for walls, floors, furniture,
furnishings and accessories. You will also explore different
furniture styles, from various historical periods.
Flooring, Walls and Windows
You will lean
about the main types of flooring and their construction. You
will examine the most appropriate types of floor coverings for a
range of uses and clients. You will also study various window
treatments including curtains and blinds, while learning how to
cost such work.
The Finishing Touch
You will
continue to develop your understanding of effective lighting for
all areas of the home including the exterior and the garden. You
will examine health and safety issues involved, prepare lighting
plans, learn how to accessorise a room and how to use plants
effectively. Finally, you will produce a professional sample
board and estimate the costs of a room and proposed scheme.
