1-General English

General English Courses are for students who wish to improve their English language abilities in the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The School's General English courses represent an excellent choice for long-term students wanting to achieve significant English language progress in the shortest period.

Levels

All students are tested on their first day at School to assign each student to his or her appropriate level. Students are assigned to one of eight levels: beginner, elementary, lower intermediate, mid-intermediate, upper intermediate, First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency.

2-General Business English

Business English courses for students with practical English language requirements in specific commercial subject areas. Each course combines GE instruction with approximately five hours per week of specialist one-to-one or small-group classes in these business topics. The School's instructors for these courses are not specialists in the subject areas. Rather, they are English language teachers with teaching experience in the terminology, grammar, dialogue and language usage relating to these business fields.

Hours per week including breaks:
    15 hours classes in the morning and 5 hours in one-to-one or small-group sessions after lunch
Required language level: mid-intermediate or above

3-General Office English

In this course component, the student learns English language as used in a typical western office setting. In class, the teacher simulates office environments and the most effective methods for communication in written and oral form in a variety of different situations.

Required language level: mid-intermediate or above

 IELTS Examination

The Burlington School's International English Language Testing System (IELTS) course is an examination preparation programme raising awareness of, and providing practice in, the IELTS exam. Students study in groups where they are guided towards improved test-taking strategies. Practice tests feature regularly throughout the course, as does homework. The IELTS examination is required for entry into British universities.
