Host Family
You may choose to live with
an English-speaking family in their home. 'English-speaking family', as used
here, usually means a husband and wife, or a husband and wife with children,
living in the same house. However, there are many families which have one adult
and child or an adult (usually a landlady) living alone. Certain host family
homestay accommodation is of an exceptional high standard
Independent Accommodation
The School can
place students where there is no English family, and students live with other
students and share common amenities. This type of self-catering accommodation is
referred to as Independent Accommodation - and involves sharing a house
and amenities without the landlord living on the premises. Some of the rooms are
single but there is the possibility to share a room with a number of other
independent students.
Burlington School Residence
If you would
prefer more economical and convenient accommodation, why not try the Burlington
School Residence? It occupies the whole of the second floor of the school
building and has a veariety of shared rooms. There are full shower facilities,
plenty of storage space and area for making tea and coffee with a small fridge.
Meals
Meal times with
your host family are valuable opportunities for you to practise your speaking
and listening skills in English. Different homestay meal arrangements are
available. The School's standards for student meals are covered in our contract
with landlords. The most frequently-requested meal arrangement is Half Board.
This means breakfast and dinner at the homestay: two meals per day, seven days a
week. Some students choose Breakfast Only (seven days a week).
Self-Catering means students must purchase and prepare their own meals. The
School's coffee bar is open throughout the day and prepares a range of
inexpensive good-quality hot and cold food, and meals can be booked in advance
at discounted rates. Some students ask for special diets. These arrangements may
be made if you ask us at least four weeks in advance of your arrival in England.
Lunch box meals are available at the School on weekdays. There is a small cost
for each additional lunch box meal.
